PREPARATION: BKA will provide each actor with voiceover sides that have been used for various casting sessions. . Benjie will work one-on-one with each actor on different sets of sides each week.
Objectives:
Benjie will go through the realities of the voiceover audition, callback and booking and will cover the following:
-The best way to set up an at home studio for voiceover auditions.
-How to use the microphone to create the best character and sound.
-Dive deeply into the technical dialogue skills.
-Voiceover “jargon and techniques” and overall tips of the trade.
-Focused character development and conveying strong emotions through the voice
-There will be a question and answer session at the end to answer all of your questions.
BKA will offer one make up class for any students who miss a class within the four week cycle. Date TBA.
TEACHER BIO:
Benjie Randall (he/him) –Attended College at The Boston Conservatory, receiving a BFA in Musical Theater with an emphasis in Directing. After several years in New York working as a Musical Theater performer he landed the VO role of Chumpkins, a tech savvy pig on Disney Jr.’s Animated Original Series, P. King Duckling. Benjie then began Casting and Directing other actors on the show, eventually becoming the Assistant Voice Over Director as well as voicing the principal character. From there he pivoted to a full time Voice Over Director in the children’s media space. Benjie Cast and Directed the Hulu Original Series, The Bravest Knight which featured big names such as Wanda Sykes, RuPaul, Wilson Cruz, T.R. Knight, Christine Baranski, Jazz Jennings and more (just to do a bit of name dropping!) The show won the 2020 GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Kids and Family Programming. Benjie has had the honor of working on several original series for Netflix including Karma’s World, created by Chris ‘Ludacris’ Bridges. Karma’s World has been nominated for 3 NAACP Image Awards and an Emmy Award. Benjie also Directed all of the dialogue and music on the newly released Netflix Original Series, Dee and Friends in Oz. Benjie has also worked extensively as a Casting Director, working on shows for Sesame Workshop, Baboon Animation, Nickelodeon and Apple TV.
This workshop is for educational purposes only and cannot and will not be considered an audition. We will not be able to share any video recording of this workshop to ensure we maintain a safe space for all participants. Students are encouraged to take handwritten or typed notes during the workshop for their reference.
While there is no audition necessary to participate, we recommend you discern whether your child is prepared for constructive professional feedback before registering.
